A TROWBRIDGE Christian who renounced the evil of Dr Who in favour of his religion is selling his collection on internet auction website eBay.
Simon White, 47, became obsessed with Dr Who from a very early age and started collecting and building life-size models.
He shares his home in Boundary Walk with a full-size Tardis that he built himself, a huge Dalek, two Cybermen and model of Dr Who's robotic dog K-9.
The collection, which Mr White estimates is worth nearly £7,000, was built up over a number of years but is to be cast aside because of his religious beliefs.
Dr Who and his materialistic obsession with it represents the "greatest lie that Satan ever told" according to Mr White.
He said: "I loved science fiction as a kid. It was the Tardis that did it for me. You could get in that box and go anywhere.
"I started collecting Dr Who stuff starting with the Dalek, which I got from an old exhibition in Brighton.
"Me and a friend spent two years making the Tardis and I became obsessed. I made a model of K-9, then a full size Cyberman with authentic Dr Who parts. I couldn't stop.
"I had to retire early from my job as a nurse at the Royal United Hospital in Bath in 1998 because I was suffering from bipolar disorder.
"I turned to drink and became an alcoholic and the Dr Who obsession was the only thing that kept me going. I wouldn't have given it up if you'd have put a gun to my head."
Having discovered Christianity Mr Smith has renounced his old life and is putting the whole collection up for sale in local trade magazines and on eBay.
He said: "God delivered me from the evil that is Dr Who, materialism and alcoholism.
"Through my relationship with Jesus I saw that none of this was making me happy and I was born again like Lazarus.
"It's a timely tale as we come up to Easter. I wanted to tell others that no matter what trouble you are in God can deliver you from the evil. If you are prepared to have a relationship with him then God can help. I have been resurrected. My old life is dead, my new life is alive."

Perhaps the Wilts Times would like to ask the gentleman if he would donate it?? make a great story! Dr Who has transformed my childs life.If it wasnt for his obsession with it, he would be locked in a silent world still.

He said it was Dr Who that kept him going and saved him from alcohol so why is it suddenly evil? Maybe he should actually stop and take a look at reality.

Don't question religion folks!
Anyone who gives up control over their life to a faith system is unhinged IMHO. I don't argue with the intentions, but the delivery mechanism is flawed beyond repair, you don't need to have "faith" to be a decent and "good" human being.
Religion is the greatest evil perpetrated against mankind.
Not a contentious statement I understand.

I do not remember using the word "evil" and never said Dr Who was evil. My obsession with it was very unhealthy and I loved Dr Who more than I loved God. The reverse is now true. The things I loved did not make me happy, only God has done that. Have a look at the 10 commandments. Dr Who had become my idol and it did not keep me going, it failed me, it's only a TV programme after all. Alcoholics Anonymous in partnership with God, and me helping myself delivered me from alcoholism. Now it is time to get rid of the reminders of the mistakes of my past life, and I'm hoping to raise money to pay for training to study theology, provided I am well enough in the future. I wonder if it is an assumption that if a Christian sells something they must donate all the proceeds to charity, I think it's a private matter how one then plans to benfit others, though at times of course there are benefits of doing something public to set an example. I had no idea the paper was going to make such a big story out of it!

I think what your doing is great Simon. The article didn't suggest that non-Christian's can't be good people! I think the fact Simon came from a life of hopelessness to a life of joy and hope is fantastic news :D

Good for you Simon, meant most sincerely. Money and possesions are empty when compared with happiness and love. I am not religious but I admire the fact that your life has been enriched by your new found religion. Glad you have found happiness.

Amethyst, while I'm sure we all have the upmost sympathy for you and your child, don't you think you're sinking a bit low by begging a man to give you something he spent a lot of time and money on for free, and then trying to use emotional blackmail when he declines? Just because he's a "Christian" doesn't mean he has to donate everything he owns for free to anyone who asks for it.

It's no one's business what this guy wants to do with his life and it means he's a reformed alcoholic then fantastic. I am only annoyed by the leech named Amethyst who persistently badgered the old dude to give up his Tardis for free. This is the kind od scum who mail lottery winners asking for "donations". This is a pretty accurate replica of the Movie box from the two Cushing movies. Why the hell would he want to give it away? And what he does with the profits is his business. Maybe he'll spend them on buying hymn books...who the hell's business is it anyway? Good luck to you Simon that's all I can say.
